Emergency School Closings

In the Event of an EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSING

As we enter into the winter months, West Carroll must make plans for possible school closings.  Inclement weather, mechanical failure, or emergency situations may necessitate school closings or an early dismissal of students.

ParentSquare, the district’s automated calling system will be used to notify parents or their designated contacts of an emergency closing or early dismissal.  During school registration, parents provided telephone and emergency contact numbers to each school.  If your phone number has changed or your contact situation has changed, please notify the school office to update this information.

In the event of school closings, the district will notify five area television stations.  They are WHBF-TV 4, KWQC-TV 6, WQAD-TV 8,WREX-TV 13, AND KLJB-TV Fox 18.  The information will also be available on three area radio stations: WCCI – 100.3,KCLN – 94.7, and WFPS – FM92.  The information is also available here on the district website, www.wc314.org.

Pick-up and drop-off times could also be delayed on the routes as the road conditions deteriorate forcing a slower speed for the safety of all students.  As you drive, be it country road or highway please be aware of the big yellow school bus.

Make sure your children are dressed appropriately for the winter weather. There is always the chance of a furnace going down in a building, a bus becoming stuck, or a bus may stop working. In all kinds of weather take the necessary precautions to keep yourself, as well as our students – your children, safe.

E-Learning Days
The District may use up to 5 E-Learning Days in place of Emergency Days as approved by the Regional Office of Education.  During E-Learning Days, students will not come to school.  K-3 students will use their physical E-Learning packets provided by teachers for assignments.  4th-12th graders will use assignments provided through Google Classroom and Schoology depending on the teacher.  Teachers will be available to contact through ParentSquare message, email, or google classroom to assist students.  Attendance will be recorded through the assignments.  Students will have two days to turn in assignments after returning to school in case internet access is unavailable.  For more specific questions, please contact your student's teacher.
