What: Preschool for children who are three or four by September 1st, and not yet eligible for kindergarten.
How are children enrolled?
Children are screened and parents fill out a Family Profile. Children who need preschool
most are offered space first.
If you attend a district screening in the spring, you will get a letter in June. This will
tell you if your child is being offered a space or on a waiting list.
If you miss district screenings, special arrangements can be made.
Is there a Cost to Early Step?
This program is free and busing is provided. Lunch costs follow school district guidelines.
Each site offers:
- Classes Monday-Thursday
- Two 1/2 day classes (3 hours each)
- Space for 20 children in each class
- A certified teacher with a four-year or master's degree
- A teaching assistant who has completed 30 hours of college courses

Where When and Who:
Success in school begins at home. Early Step helps parents be part of school once their children start. These fun, social and educational activities are:
- In and out of the classroom
- Formal and informal
- With children and with adults
