...THE REWARDS OF READING...
Reading fifteen minutes a day can change your child's life. Make reading your first choice. Kids and parents
make time for lots of extras in the day. TV shows and computer time take up surprising amounts of time. Insist
that your child read before turning on the TV or computer.
Always have a book on hand, mo matter where you are. Keep a paperback book in your car. Make sure that your child
always has something to read when time is available.
Focus on your child's interests. Reading should be for pleasure. Choose books from the library that are of
interest to your child. It doesn't matter if they are reading a book about sports, cars, or animals. It is most
important to have them read something.
Ask your child questions while you are reading to them. Everyone listens better when they know that someone
is going to ask questions. Try questions like this: "Why do you think the character did that?" "What do you think will happen
next?" or "What would you do if you were the character?"
There's something special about owning a book. Have a special place in your home for books. Choose a book
as a special treat or reward.
