The Kindergarten students are very busy learning and discovering.

In our reading program, the students learn the letter sounds, how to write letters, recognize letters, and how letters are used to read and write words. In reading, we also listen to a variety of folktales, stories, rhymes, and poems. These are used to help develop comprehension skills, develop phonemic awareness, and help us learn how our language works. Our new Reading Series for the 2010-2011 school year will be McMillan/McGraw Hill.  Parents will be able to access reading activities for their child to reinforce their child’s skills at www.macmillanmh.com/illinois/families.

Our EnVision Math Program uses “hands-on” and “child-centered” activities to develop skills such as concepts of numbers, measurement, addition and subtraction, and counting throughout the day.

In Kindergarten, we also use theme units, which use activities in different curriculum area, to further enhance the concepts that we are learning.

We also enhance our learning with a Fall field trip to a local Fruit Farm and a visit to the Ingersoll Wetlands Center. In the Spring we visit the Niabi Zoo. Other exciting activities for Kindergartners are the Grandparents’ Day Get-together, the 100th Day Celebration, the Thanksgiving Feast, and many more!

Here are pictures of some of the fun we have!
