Mrs. Katzenberger is responsible for the general administration of West Carroll Middle School in the consolidated school district #314 of Mt. Carroll, Savanna, and Thomson.
West Carroll Middle School Goals:
• Raise West Carroll Middle School’s attendance rate to 97% by 2012.
• Make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in all categories on the ISAT at West Carroll Middle School.
• Increase teaching and learning with technology building-wide across the curriculum by at least 10% in lesson plan objectives.
Biographical Information:
Julie Katzenberger has served as an administrator in the West Carroll School District since July 1, 2006. Julie began her administrative career at West Carroll High School as an assistant principal and served at the high school level from July 2006 to July 2008. In July 2008, Julie started her principalship at West Carroll Middle School in Mt. Carroll, IL. Currently, she serves the district students as a West Carroll Middle School Principal for grades 6, 7, and 8 with a total enrollment for the 2011-2012 academic year of 303 students.
Mrs. Katzenberger was raised in Sycamore and Mt. Carroll, IL. She graduated from Mt. Carroll High School in 1989 and then attended Illinois State University where she double majored and minored in four years. At ISU, she received a Bachelors Degree in Education with a Major in Health Education and a Minor in Biology Education. While at ISU, she also received a Bachelors Degree in Community Health Education and she completed her internship at CGH Hospital in Sterling, IL.
In May of 1993, Julie was hired to teach seventh grade science at Freeport Junior High School in Freeport, IL. During her tenure at Freeport, Julie taught life science, physical science, language arts, and AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination).
In August of 2000, Julie completed her Masters of Science in Education through Northern Illinois University in Educational Psychology. Beginning in August of 2002, Mrs. Katzenberger began her career as an adjunct professor for Northern Illinois University where she has taught various graduate and undergraduate courses in educational psychology including EPS 300, EPS 304, EPS 419/EPS 519, EPS 501 and EPS 506.
As an NIU graduate, Julie continued her education and graduated with a second Masters of Science in Education from Northern Illinois University in 2004. In August of 2004, she obtained her Type 75 certificate and Educational Administration degree. Currently, she is in the doctoral program at Northern Illinois University in the Department of Leadership, Educational Psychology, and Foundations. In April of 2007, Julie presented at the AERA (American Education Research Association) Convention in Chicago, IL on a doctoral research project in Problem-Based Learning at IMSA (Illinois Math and Science Academy in Aurora, IL).
Julie Katzenberger served as the secretary for the Illinois Principals Association Northwest Region Executive Board from June of 2008-June 2011. Presently, she is the membership chair for the IPA Northwest Region Executive Board. For the past four years, Julie has served as a member of the Mt. Carroll Noon Rotary Club.
Julie and her husband, Aaron, have been married since 1995 and have three children. In Julie’s free time, she enjoys reading, swimming, and watching her children play soccer, basketball, baseball, and running cross-country.
