West Carroll
Intermediate School
The West Carroll Intermediate School houses 200 fourth and fifth grade students. We have the unique opportunity of focusing on this age group at our attendance center. The students receive instruction in the core curriculum subjects, math, reading, science, and social studies. Our school also offers Art, Music, and Physical Education. We provide additional academic assistance in the core curricular areas to students who qualify for special education services. We also have a full time Title 1 Reading teacher who provides small group instruction. West Carroll Intermediate School staff challenges our students to work hard and prepare for their future. Our school motto is “Learning Today for Tomorrow’s Challenges”.
Our school currently has four sections each of fourth and fifth grade. We have many fun activities that are scheduled throughout the year. The fourth graders enjoy the County wide Conservation Day. The fifth grade students can choose to participate in our Beginning Instrumental Band program as well as their general music instruction. We also participate in the annual County wide Eco meet and our teams placed 1 st and 2 nd in the 2008 competition. West Carroll Intermediate students are fortunate to take educational field trips each year, for example: skiing at Chestnut Mountain Resort, the Putnam museum, and Mississippi River Museum.
We hold an annual Veterans’ Day Program to honor our men and women in the US Armed forces. This is widely supported by the community with many local veterans participating. The students work hard to prepare excellent Holiday and spring music concerts. Each year we hold an annual Geography Bee sponsored by the National Geographic society and a Spelling Bee sponsored by the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Our students get very excited about these fun events each year.
The West Carroll Intermediate School has a fully equipped computer lab with 27 computers for students use. We also have a great media center with a strong selection of books for our students. Our librarian provides weekly instruction on a variety of topics. The media center houses a mini computer lab with eight computers. We invite the parents and community members to become involved in our school whenever possible. The West Carroll Intermediate staff feels strongly that it is an essential element to our student’s success.
