WCHS Drama Department Present the Fall Play:

This year, the West Carroll High School Drama Department proudly presents Gary Ray Stapp’s Fashionably Late, a comedy in two-acts, in the West Carroll Pre-School Gymnasium (in Thomson, Illinois), on Friday, November 4, Saturday, November 5, both at 7:00 PM, and Sunday, November 6, at 2:00 PM.

The Story:  It’s a get-it-while-you-can attitude in the world of fashion and no one knows that better than the staff of New York City fashion designer, Wade Haywood. So what do Charmaine, Meredith, and Harry do when the boss fails to show up for work? Not what you think! There’s no time for loafing when opportunity is knocking at the agency door, especially when one stranger shows up with the disturbing announcement that she’s been hired as a replacement, followed by the appearance of another stranger with a big wallet and a penchant for over-sized models. Suddenly, what started out as an ordinary day, becomes an afternoon of high jinx as brains, beauty, and brawn mix it up in a cross-dressing masquerade designed to fool a fashion industry guru, an IRS agent, and a Texas oil millionaire. But when the fooled wise-up to the foolish, good fortune quickly unravels at the seams and catastrophe of hilarious proportion looms on the edge of the fashion runway. And when secrets collide with good intentions, everyone learns that being fashionably late is better than never being fashionable at all.

Cast members include: Liesl Meador as Charmaine, Tyler French as Wade Haywood, Katie Woods as Meredith, Ben Rogers as Harry, Ana Pacas as Iris, Enetha Walls as Roxanne/Natalie Hawt, Jackie Mitchell as Mike, Tony Pacas as Joe, Karlee Wurster as Florida, Michael Strauch as Edward Eiress, Karenna Noordhoff as Eugenia VanEdderhorn, Brady Edwards as Jay Ron Bodeen, Katlyn Ferris as Mrs. Haywood, and Bobbie Douglas as Myrtle. The play is directed by Scott D. Mattison, Drama & Choir Director at WCHS, Tech Director is Michael Von Hollen of Dubuque, Iowa. Production Assistants include Tommy Losch-Stage Manager, Collin Wilkinson-House Manager, Kaylee Vos-Sound, and Payton Nevills-Lights, along with the West Carroll High School Drama Club.

Eighty-three (83) West Carroll FFA freshmen and sophomore agriculture students attended the “Fall Harvest Safety Days” camp on September 15 at the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS) on the campus of Northeast Iowa Community College, Peosta, Iowa.

The students were divided into groups and trained on the topics of “Safe Operation of Farm Combines”, “Prevention of Grain Entrapment and Suffocation”, and “Tractor Safety and Rural Roadway Safety”.

A lunch provided by NECAS included hot dogs, potato chips, cookies, ice cream and milk.

Presenters at the camp included Paul Mausser and Charlotte Halverson on “Safe Operation of Farm Combines”; Dan Neenan, and Chad Shultz on “Prevention of Grain Entrapment and Suffocation”; and Al Esch and Ric Jones on “Tractor Safety & Rural Roadway Safety”.  A session on “Skid Steer Operation Safety” was presented by Dan Neenan and Al Esch to the whole group after lunch.

As agriculture continues to rank as one of the most dangerous occupations in North America and across the globe, the National Safety Council will put the spotlight on farming, ranching and the related health and safety issues.  National Farm Safety Week is September 18-24, 2011.

West Carroll FFA advisors Dan Hartman and Don Mathey chaperoned the trip.  Dawn Beyer also helped chaperone.
